Well.. That's interesting.. Before I saw this posted, earlier this morning I was led to do a little research on Grand Central Station (GCS) in NYC. The idea of the timing involved in running a railway has always fascinated me. Timing is obviously critically important since you can't have two trains on the same piece of track at the same time. Ornate clocks are usually a center piece in most railway station concourses, emphasizing the importance of time.
ReplyDeleteWhat caught my eye was the mention of the ceiling of the main concourse. It was a painting of the constellations on the ecliptic as they would have appeared at the time the station was opened. After a couple of months, it was noted that the contractor had the ecliptic painted backwards, presumably because the projection they were using was held backwards.
Over the years, this was fixed, not by repainting the original ceiling, but by covering it with a layer of sheet-rock and painting the correct ecliptic on that.
That means both ecliptic murals, representing two timelines in opposite directions are still there. One we see and the other is hidden.

Thanks and blessings, Mark. Interesting history, and especially as the superimposed "mirrors" you noted. There's Mandala Effect in that place, with the "Station" as so many of us remember it, being now called, Terminal.
DeleteYes I absolutely remember Grand Central Station myself. I loved the Video Bob and Aaron.
ReplyDeleteThanks and blessings, Jim!
