The Queen's Gambit (2020) Part Two - Exploring Media Rituals with Chess and Piano

In October of 2020, Netflix released a highly acclaimed and popular miniseries called, The Queen's Gambit. It's a fictional story about a woman named Elizabeth Harmon, who rises to the top of the chess world. She was orphaned as a girl, and with that impact on her life, the connection between chess and death in this media production is inherent. But our interest goes deeper than just that! Explore it with me!

In this video, we're going to see chess and sometimes also the piano associated with death and life, and stargates, and there's also an implicit jail break angle. What's really most exceptional in all this is a scene where Beth touches on the ancient origins of chess and its magical purpose with a casual statement about what attracted her to the game.
